Tuesday, February 22nd - Thursday, 24th
Vegas, Baby!

    Today, we drove to Vegas. Coming from the barren desert and then suddenly being in a bright, colorful oasis was a bit of a culture shock! Everything there was bright and busy and full of life.
    We set up camp at a KOA and had some dinner. Then, we visited the casino right next door! Me, S, L, F, and A went with Dad and it was a blast. We didn't go on the gambling floors, but we did visit the arcade and their main attraction: a fully indoor town square-style area with fake trees, grass, and animatronics, but a real waterfall. We walked around the shops a bit, too.

    The next day, we decided to eat lunch in true Vegas fashion at an all-you-can-eat buffet. We went to a kid-friendly place called John's Incredible Pizza Company. They had pizza, chicken wings, mac and cheese, and an arcade! After eating a lot of lunch, we spent the rest of the afternoon at the arcade playing games. We had a blast there, and we even took a family picture in a photo booth. It was a pretty tight squeeze...

    We also drove down the famous Las Vegas Strip that day. It was really neat seeing all the flashing signs and buildings. We didn't get to see it at night, unfortunately. 


    On the 24th, we visited Hoover Dam! Seeing the sheer scale of it was incredible, and standing on the edge of it was a little dizzying. We read about the amount of time, work, and resources needed to build it, and I honestly still can't wrap my head around it. Thankfully, we all came out of the experience alive and nobody fell, so that counts as a win in my book.  

    That evening, we packed up and got ready to head to Kanab, Utah.

Grand Canyon Adventures!

Tuesday, March 1st The Grand Canyon     We woke up on the first of March with the promise of a surprise. We drove up to a small train station, and boarded a 100-year-old train car and rode to the Grand Canyon.       We had three hours there to spend. We walked around a few of the buildings, one of which was a Native American art exhibit. Of course, we also saw the canyon, of course! It was fascinating to see how small people looked, even just halfway down. We couldn't even see the bottom from where we were!       I think one of the reasons that the Grand canyon was so interesting was that there was nothing to compare the sheer scale to. It looked essentially just like the photos, unless you could find a point of reference on the bottom, like some small cabins we found with our monocular.      Overall, the Grand canyon was a blast, and though there were a few meltdowns, it was still an enjoyable, memorable day!

Zion

Friday February 25th -  Sunday, 27th Zion National Park     We got to our campsite on the 25th, and it was freezing. The temperature got down to 8 or 9 degrees overnight, which was just a bit too cold for comfort. However, the next day we powered through, wrapped ourselves warmly, and headed to Zion.     We went through the East entrance, which had a 1.1 mile tunnel through a mountain for driving. We had to fold our mirrors in because it was so narrow! Even after the tunnel it was an adventure, as the windy mountain roads were pretty icy. But thankfully, we made it down in one piece. We hopped on a tour bus and saw the entire park. At the end of the tour we started hiking on an a trail, but it got very icy very quickly, so we headed back closer to the entrance and hiked a different one.        The trail we decided to do was called the Emerald Pools trail, and it was incredibly beautiful, if a bit muddy. Camper Tour Video!

 A short tour of our camper! Video notes: I forgot to include this, but at the front of the camper under the cabinets, we had a lot of unused space. We turned that into a laundry hamper, which fits 3 large bags of dirty laundry, or about 8 normal loads. It has a flap at the top to put clothes into, and the entire front swings open for easy removal of laundry bags The bunks on the top belong to me, S, L, and F. The youngest 3 get the bottom bunks :) I apologize for the sound quality, my phone isn't the best at recording audio.
